Planning Holistically

Hello Friends, happy 2024!

Welcome to my monthly letters. I hope you all had a beautiful holiday season.  Today I’m writing to you about holistic planning & goal-setting.

Make a cup of coffee, grab your pen and journal, get cosy and let’s start.

**********************************************************************************

I get it. It’s relatively easy to dream, to set intentions and connect with the bigger vision we have for ourselves (I know, relatively…) But the real test is to get closer to that vision every single day, take small steps in the desired direction, and remember our intentions. To stay committed to seeing the changes through.

So here’s how to plan the Next Year, next month, week, or any other transitions holistically. Following these steps will help you transform your intentions into reality:

  • Once you tap into your desired state, your bigger vision and your dreams, turn your intentions into actions by setting specific goals. For example, your intention might be to live a more balanced life. In this case, the goal could be to schedule time for a self-care ritual 3 times a week or to spend quality time with a friend every week. If you want to get healthier, you might want to schedule a specific physical activity every day. If you want to feel emotionally stable, you could plan a meditation every morning, 15 minutes of journaling or therapy or coaching every week, etc. Break it down into small actions and schedule it in your calendar.

  • Ask yourself what might stand in the way or create resistance (inside or outside of you). Make sure your goals are realistic and include other commitments. Generally - less is more. Don’t overstretch yourself, you want to set yourself up for success. Keep it simple.

  • Think about what kind of support you might need to put in place to help you with the next steps (e.g. talking to people, blocking your calendar).

  • Write down your goals & review them regularly. Schedule check-in sessions, e.g. weekly, monthly or quarterly to keep yourself accountable (put it also in your calendar or use any other reminder that works for you). It’s going to be your time to check for progress, acknowledge any learnings and readjust whenever needed. Remember that it’s ok if things don’t feel aligned anymore and need changing. Stay flexible.

And what’s important: include your whole person  - it’s not only about setting mind-driven goals but also nourishing your body, physical health, emotional well-being, your environment. Make sure all parts of you are on board towards that change.  A good plan simply feels good in your body. Just check in with yourself and listen for any messages from your body, your heart and your intuition.

When you think about your goals, does it bring you feelings of expansiveness and joy?

I will end today with one inspiring quote:

“The biggest commitment you must keep is your commitment to yourself.”
